What is a Monogram? A monogram is simply the combination of 2 or more letters to create a unique and personalized logo. During the 1920’s and 1930’s, the monogram was commonly used to define a family’s status among society. A family who had a monogram of their own, meant they had items to monogram; like silver, or linens or jewelry.

Here's an example of monogram format, (without any personal or stylistic element included):

How to Monogram
The woman’s first name/initial should be first, as the man’s name/initial should never be separated from his last name/initial.

When to Monogram
Using a married monogram on your wedding invitations isn’t considered proper. However, the monogram theme can still be represented on the invitation by using the first initial of the brides and grooms name and joining them with an ampersand. After the ceremony, the married monogram can be acceptably stamped anywhere!

Where to Monogram
Modern weddings place a fresh twist on this classic theme. Here are a few examples of where to place your monogram:

  • Stationery: invitations, thank-you notes, programs
  • Bridal bouquet

  • Envelope seals

  • For special and personal touch: bridal underwear, garter, grooms underwear socks

  • Bridal veil

  • Handkerchief

  • Ring bearer pillow

  • Aisle runner

  • Bridal party gifts: tote bags, men’s watch cases

  • Place cards, labels

  • Cocktail napkins

  • Cake topper

  • Guestbook

  • Wall banners

  • Champagne flutes

  • Party favors: boxes, ribbon, sticker labels

  • Dance floor projection
  • This list can go on and on. Anything and everything can be monogrammed these days! Have fun with it!
