Mistakes Every Daughter-in-Law Make: Mistake # 4

Previously we went over the importance of complimenting our Mother-in-Laws…and doing so often. We’re all guilty of this next one…

Mistake #4: Forgetting Your MIL’s Special Days, i.e. Birthday, Anniversary and Mother’s Day
This sounds like a no-brainer, right? You’d be surprised how life gets in the way and before you know it you realize you’ve over-looked something big. As much as you’d like to think he has it all together, you can’t depend on your husband to remember all his mother’s special occasions either. In fact, he will most likely forget so you will have to be the one to make sure this gets done, without fail!

Solution: Remember those dates like you remember your own!
Your first point of attack is to make sure you have all the important dates (birthday, anniversary, etc.) somewhere where you will see and remember them. Consider marking your calendar, recording them in a day timer if you use one, or even setting a reminder on your phone for those special days to be sure you won’t miss them without realizing it. And remember…set a reminder at least a week before hand so you have time to do something special like get a card, send flowers, what-have-you. Make sure your husband signs the cards too. Keep him involved. Make sure she feels appreciated by the both of you. She is his mother and although the goal of this is to achieve an independent relationship with her for yourself, he is still the link that brought you together
