The Elusive Mini Entree

The mini entrée. Sure it’s smaller, but it’s just as tasty as its cousin the full entrée. Perhaps you’ve wondered whether this elusive food sampling is worth considering for your wedding? Allow me to demystify the mini entrée for you.

Mini entrees are exactly what they sound like: small-sized meals. They are generally served in one of two ways – either passed by servers or as plated samples in food stations. Unlike the traditional plated dinner, there are no set rules when serving these tiny bites. Mix and match to your heart’s delight – serve wild mushroom ravioli, zucchini parmesan, turbans of sole stuffed with risotto and throw in some mini burgers. Anything goes.

You may be getting the idea that this sort of offering is rather unstructured. You’re right and it should come as no surprise to learn that couples who choose this type of menu typically want to serve something unique. The mine entrée is perfect for the couple who wants a cocktail-party-like reception. The advantage to the mini entrée is that they tend to keep the party moving—you’ll find your guests mingling and talking in between bites of delicious foods.

Couples can also use the mini entrée to share a part of their lives with their guests. We recently catered a wedding for a bride and groom who have traveled extensively. They chose mini entrees from the different parts of the world they had visited together – their guests were treated to a veritable world of flavors with food samplings from Asia, Italy, Spain, Greece, and the Caribbean.

While the mini entrée doesn’t work for everyone, it can work well for the more relaxed cocktail party reception where structure is not on the guest list.
