  • Ethan & Anne: Counseling Day 4

We’re on to Day 4 with Anne and Ethan. So far, they’ve found that this experience has really given them confidence in their relationship—they’ve realized that for the most part they are a pretty functional couple. They did express their hesitancy in sharing some details about their sex life with the minister. They decided to keep that under wraps to spare the old guy a heart-attack. Read the questions from day one, two, and three if you just joined us!

  • Ethan & Anne: Counseling Day 3

Here are questions 5 & 6 of Ethan and Anne's premarital counseling experience. If you need to play a little catch up: read questions from day one and two first. Anne and Ethan said by this point they were feeling a bit more comfortable spilling intimate details of their relationship with the minister.

  • Ethan & Anne: Counseling Day 2

Here are the next two questions Anne and Ethan were asked by the minister who put them through their rigorous premarital counseling course. They admitted to me after the initial excitement about taking this step toward marriage wore off, the questions became a little harder to answer. If you didn't catch the first two questions, check them out!

  • Ethan & Anne: Counseling Day 1

So here they are: the first two questions posed to Anne and Ethan during their pre-marital counseling series. For fun you can answer them on your own or with your fiancé. To really mix it up, try switching roles and see how your answers compare to the answers your partner gave about you! On a serious note, if you can answer "Yes, definitely" to any of these questions you may have an issue that should be addressed with a counselor, spiritual advisor or other trusted confidante.

  • Ethan & Anne: A Premarital Counseling Case Study

My kooky friend Anne is getting married this summer, to a much less eccentric but equally fantastic man named Ethan. They are the epitome of opposites attracting, and somehow each seems to be the yin to the other's yang. Anne has always been a wild child, whose interests range from backpacking in third world countries to pole-dancing as a form of exercise. It makes sense of course, then, that after she returned from the Peace Corps she fell madly in love with Ethan, a quiet financial analyst in the city. But faster than you can say "What the…?" it became apparent that this was the real deal: these two were smitten, and pretty soon Ethan popped the question and successfully reined Anne in.

We've been posting a lot about Green Weddings lately, and have hoped to give some practical, easy and fun advice about how to incorporate eco-friendly tips into your planning. We're going for what John Mayer calls the Light Green approach; which advocates for making "going green" a fun and easy experience. I'm sorry but nobody wants to sit around and listen to someone preach about how we're all going to die if we don't start using different light bulbs. This approach just isn't fun. But I am certainly cool with someone communicating this to me…say… in the form of a rap.

  • Ask Nicole: Guest List Dilemma

    Question:

    Dear Nicole,

Am I obligated to invite my friend's new boyfriend to our wedding? We would like to keep the guest list to a minimum, and frankly I'm not even sure if I like the guy. Obviously, if they had been dating for a while I would invite him, but since it's not yet a very serious relationship, do I have to invite him?

    Tip #3--Go "Au Naturale"

You can wear more than patchouli on your wedding day and still stick to your Earth-loving values. More women than ever before are concerned about the impact of the cosmetic industry on our environment and health as well as harmful testing practices used on animals. Because of this incredible demand, many high quality health and beauty product companies have sprung up. But it can be an overwhelming process to find the best products. So I went to the experts.

Dads have traditionally gotten away with writing large checks and walking daughters down the aisle as their official wedding duties. Typically it's the Mother-of-the-Bride and the Bride herself who take on the bulk of wedding planning and nuptial tasks. But it can no longer be assumed that brides have the "All American Nuclear Family" to take on the traditional wedding planning roles. Some brides are planning weddings with one parent, no parents, or jointly with her fiancé. And it doesn't stop there. In my case, my in-laws paid for half of our wedding. The old rules just don't apply any longer.

  • Ask Nicole: Toilet Paper Troubles

    Comment:

    Dear Nicole,

I find it quite hypocritical that you would highlight how to have an Earth/eco-friendly wedding alongside a contest to create a wedding dress out of toilet paper. I was aghast at the fact that people would be using such valuable resources as paper and trees to win a contest. While the dress is quite stunning and even [craftier than] last year's winner, I am very distraught that there would be such a parallel on your website.

Spicy Tuna Tartar with Tequila Sour Cream Garnish

This recipe is like a Spicy Tuna Roll on a chip! If you're like me and like a little tuna with your tartar, I suggest adding a little more mayo than the recipe calls for. Mmmm...mayo. But I digress.

I think you'll find the spicy, acidic tartar ingredients cut through the rich flavor of the tuna. Its vivid presentation makes this dish especially festive.
